K4 beam hinge placement

Today Gabe and Dan continued bonding the C-channels to the beams, positioned the hinges, and began bonding those as well. The small carbon rods shown are to mark the center of the hinge holes and to help the guys position the hinges correctly. They used two laser levels positioned at right angles to sight the rods.

K4 hull sanding, filling, priming

Vincent and Damon continue to sand and fill the hulls. Today Damon primed the hulls again. Tomorrow they’ll do some spot filling and prime again. After that, wet-sanding.

Today most activities were delayed due to foul weather. The boat did progress from station #5 toward station #6.

Some more great photos from Don and Joe in the Atlantic Ocean. They used the kytoon and the white and red rokkakus today, using the higher kite to take photos of the lower kite. They also engineered an aerial photo of the research team on the deck. This day they traveled from sample station #3 to sample station #5. Upon arriving, everyone went swimming.

Don and Joe took some great photos of Sargassum at station #3 from the lifting kites and from the collection boat. The fisheye photos were taken from the GoPros–either on the kite or on a handheld pole. The lower-res photos with the black borders are from the Axis cam.
